Cabbage Test: Acids & Bases

We cut the cabbage and put it in boiling distilled water and waited. Then we drained the cabbage. We got a few jars. Each jar had a different ingredient in it. We poured some cabbage water in each one to see what colored it turned into.

Our observations:
Vinegar turned into a red color. Apple cider vinegar is more acidic than rice vinegar (it was more red). Baking soda turns blue. Ultra bleach turned yellow. When we put in less bleach, it turned green. The tap water was bluish purplish. Cream of Tartar and lemon juice are acids. The vinegars were still more acidic. When we mixed the vinegar solution with the baking soda solution, it fizzled over in a purple fuzz.

Acids are about Hydrogen. Bases are about Hydroxide.
