Our Sabbath Pilgrimage

Each week we leave home for church around 9 am and return home at about 3:30. Here's a photo journal of the process getting to and from church.
Leaving home on our first Sunday in Shanghai

Tempting fate on the way to the bus stop. Yes, this is THE man hole that still makes me laugh to think of.

Bus 776 which only mostly gets us to the subway, so we try to arrange for a van to take us the 2 miles from our home to the subway and back.
Buying tickets for the subway when the line for multiple ride cards was too long
45 min on the subway
Counting the stops . . . 18!
Walking from the subway to the church, about 1/2 mile
For blistered heels, shoes are optional
We meet for classes in the tall building and Sacrament meeting in a building on the other side.
Going up the escalator to Sacrament Meeting (on the right, the tall building is on the left). Yes, this is a different week than the other pictures
Going in to Sacrament Meeting
Riding home on the subway with the Tao's, another family in the branch (who home school! ;).

More subway, more Tao family

There are two branches for expatriates and at least one branch of Chinese Nationals who joined the church outside of China. We don't, per government regulations, proselyte to Chinese Nationals or interact with the Chinese branch. Either way, we're grateful to have a place to meet with some really great Branch members.

Awesome! Your teaching your children how important it is to go to church, despite difficulties! Not a lesson they learn in the states when church is 5 minutes away, by airconditioned car!

A-MAY-ZING!! LOVE your pictures and narrative! Thanks SO much for keeping us informed about your new life. We can hardly wait to see you and experience some of it ourselves.

It is very hard to believe you are all really on the other side of this entire, big world. How good to see the pictures and to see the kids smiling. Glad to share your experience through the blog.

I personally would be scared to death of living somewhere else other that the good ol' USA. but kudo's to you and your family for the adventure of a lifetime. Good luck and keep the blogging up. It's great to see and read of your adventures.

And people here think 30 minutes to drive to church in their air conditioned car is too far. How many people are in your branch? We have about 80 people at church each week.

We have about 200 people in the branch and close to that come each week. We usually stick around after church to have a snack before heading back. That gives us a chance to chat with people a little. We also have a few families that often ride the train with us most of the way home. It really is different and sometimes exhausting, but it's all good.
